HomeThe Peterborough Petes are proud to announce the hiring of Mr. Ken McRae as Head Coach. Ken joins the Petes after coaching five seasons of professional hockey in the Central Hockey League (CHL) with the Corpus Christi Rayz and Indianapolis Ice. McRae brings a record of 155-130-0-34 in 320 games with a .542 winning percentage. Prior to beginning his coaching career, Ken enjoyed a 13 year playing career that included 3 years in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves and Hamilton Steelhawks as well as NHL stops in Quebec and Toronto. McRae was a 1st round draft pick (18th overall) of the Quebec Nordiques in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. Some of the highlights in his career include winning the 1998-99 Turner Cup Championship with the International Hockey League’s (IHL) Houston Aeros, and an IHL All-Star appearance. In 2002-03 Ken was named the CHL Coach of the Year after leading the Indianapolis Ice to a 39-16-0-9 record as well as winning the Northeast Division Title and Northern Conference Championship. He has twice been a member of the CHL Competitions Committee and has sat on the CHL Rules Committee once. Ken is very active in the communities where he lives attending charity golf tournaments, promotions and volunteering. Ken, his wife Angela and two children will be moving to Peterborough in the near future. Ken McRae becomes the 17th Head Coach in the Peterborough Petes 52 year history joining Baldy McKay (1956-57), Ted Kennedy (1957-58), Scotty Bowman (1958-61), Neil Burke (1961-62), Frank Mario (1962-65), Roger Bedard (1965-67), Roger Neilson (1967-76), Garry Young (1976-77), Gary Green (1977-79), Mike Keenan (1979-80), Dave Dryden (1980-82), Dick Todd (1982-93 & 2004-06), Dave MacQueen (1993-96), Brian Drumm (1996-98), Rick Allain (1998-04), and Vince Malette 2006-08. This does not include General Manager Jeff Twohey as Interim Head Coach in 1998 or Assistant Coach Darren Keily as Interim Head Coach in 2004.
