The Peterborough Petes earned a much needed point on Thursday night in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Kingston Frontenacs.
The Petes opened the scoring 9:33 into the game on a goal by Zach Lorentz after the 19 year old forward missed the last two games due to injury. Assists went to Slater Koekkoek and Nick Ritchie and the Petes held that 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
The second period was all Frontenacs as they eliminated the Petes lead and built a 3-1 lead of their own on goals by Darcy Greenaway at 7:43 and 16:31 and Cody Alcock at 11:51, However, the third period was all Petes when Trevor Murphy scored his second of the season at 1:27 with assists to Francis Menard and Stephen Pierog and evened the game when Steven Trojanovic blasted a point shot past former Petes netminder Mike Morrison at 6:44 with assists to Nick Ritchie and Eric Cornel.
Although the Petes started overtime on the Powerplay they failed to capitalize before taking a penalty of their own and just after the Penalty expired Sam Bennett skated in to rip a shot off the post and into the top corner beating Mike Giugovaz for a 4-3 Frontenacs win.
The Petes now travel to Owen Sound on Saturday before closing out the weekend with a matinee game in Guelph on Sunday at 2:00pm.
