The Peterborough Petes surrendered 3 first period goals enroute to a 4-3 loss to the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday night.
The Spirit opened the scoring 4:41 into the game on Jimmy Lodges first goal of the season and built a 2-0 lead at 5:23 on a goal by Jamie Oleksiak before the Petes got on the board with a powerplay goal by Andrew Yogan at 13:25. The Spirit added another before the end of the period for a 3-1 lead when Michael Fine beat Mike Morrison at 14:28.
The Spirit again opened the scoring in the second period with a goal by Steven Strong at 3:30, however, the Petes battled back with a goal by Derek Mathers at 10:09 and Luke Hietkamp at 14:02 but they were unable to overcome the first period let down and up losing 4-3.
Next action for the Petes is Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm when they take on the Windsor Spitfires to close out a 3 games in 3 days weekend.
