The Peterborough Petes ended an 8 game winless streak with a 5-3 win over the visiting London Knights on Thiursday night at the PMC.
The Knights opened the scoring 1:04 intot he game on a breakaway goal by Vladislav Namestnikov, but Alan Quine evened the game for the Petes at 14:47 depositing a rocket of a shot over the shoulder of Michael Houser after walking out of the corner for his 13th of the season.
The Petes a 3-1 second period lead on goals by Stephen Pierog, his 3rd goal in as many games at 2:57 and Andrew yogan on what might be the prettiest goal of the season on an end to end rush at 7:35. The Knights cut the lead to 3-2 before the end of the period with a powerplay marker by Seth Griffith at 9:47.
The Petes extended their lead to 5-2 scoring on both halves of a 5 on 3 powerplay when Trevor Murphy ripped a shot through Houser at 12:48 for his first career OHL goal and Steven Troanovic scored on a slapshot from the point at 14:23. The Knights would pul within a pair at 16:12, and the Petes closed the door down the stretch to record their 35th point on the season moving them them 2 points up on the Sudbury Wolves for 6th in the Eastern Conference and just 5 points back of the Ottawa 67's for 1st in the conference.
Next action for the Petes is Sunday afternoon when they host the Barrie Colts at 2:00pm at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
