The Peterborough Petes opened 2012 with their first overtime win of the season with a 4-3 victory over the visiting Sudbury Wolves.
Joey West opened the scoring for the Petes 1:20 into the game notching a shorthanded tally for his 12th of the season. the Wolves came right back scoring the same powerplay to even the game on a goal by Kristoff Kontos at 2:34. Michael Sgarbossa gave the wolves their first lead of the game at 12:21, but JC Campagna evened the game for the Petes with just 49 seconds remaining in the first period.
Brody Silk gave the visitors a 3-2 lead at 17:32 of the second and his tally looked to be the winning goal until Andrew Yogan tied the game for the Petes with 1:04 remaining in the game and for the seventh time this season the Petes were headed for overtime,
Overtime started with both teams in penalty box and when Alan Quine was hauled down on a breakaway he was awarded a penalty shot. Quine made good on the Penalty Shot giving the Petes a 4-3 lead and win over the Wolves.
Next action for the Petes is Thursday when the they kick off a home and home series with the Kingston Frontenacs at 7:05pm.
