Peterborough Petes players Daniel Ryder and Scott Cowie were at Lansdowne Place in Peterborough taking part in Fire Prevention Week.

Ryder and Cowie signed autographs for students on class tours as well as provided guided tours of the fire safety mobile trailer. Both players will be at Lansdowne Place again on Friday morning from 9:30 - 10:30am.

Fire Prevention Week is in full swing with city fire officials promoting fire safety in the kitchen this year. Prevent cooking fires - watch your heat, is this years theme because cooking equipment is ranked as the number one cause of preventable home fires in Ontario, officials said. In the city, 4.4 percent of fires between August 2005 and August 2006 were related to cooking. Fire Safety displays will be at Lansdowne Place until Saturday.

All fire stations will be open to the public for a two hour open house Saturday between 9 and 11am.
